A Very Large Salty Lake

After a good night sleep in Olgii, we're back on the road and headed to the Uureg Nuur (lake)/Turgen Uul (mountain) region.

Uureg Nuur is a large turquoise lake, surrounded by stunning 3000+ meter mountain peaks. Interestingly, the freshwater lake has some unidentified minerals and is designated as 'saltwater' in some maps. On the south end of the lake, we passed by several ancient graves by the road. The graves, dating back to the 8th century, are believed to be either of local heroes or enemies killed in battle.

Our overnight was with a young couple in their ger...which made it interesting when they got "frisky" while we were trying to sleep. I had the added pleasure of sleeping next mutton legs being cured on the Ger frame.

Location:Uureg Nuur, Mongolia
