Feels weird not having any crazy activities scheduled today but at
same time I'm glad to do nothing, enjoy a cup of coffee, and watch the
mobs of people bungy jump. Saturday's bungy is definitely more
crowded than Wednesday (glad I was able to jump on Wednesday and not
today), and seems like every twenty-something year old in Kathmandu
have come to the Resort to bungy or swing! I felt like the 'old man'
who's been at the Resort too long and is now the guest expert on bungy
jumping.
Time to leave...but I don't want to! I had an amazing time at The
Last Resort and hope I'll be back soon. The resort was so relaxing,
the staff was absolutely wonderful and all the great activities was
very addicting. Next stop...Kathmandu.
The 3+ hour bus ride to Kathmandu was an adventure onto itself. The
bus had to drive over several muddy areas and landslides (thankfully
all were cleared), navigate twisting roads with little to no barriers on steep
drops, and contend with on-coming trucks and buses with barely enough
room to pass...and then rain which made the road very slippery. We
almost flipped over when our bus tried to pass another bus on a
hairpin turn in the rain...at the top of the mountain with a steep
drop-off! At this point I just closed my eyes, crossed my fingers and
told myself that bungy jump was far more scary.
After surviving the bus ride, I arrived in Kathmandu (not a pretty
city) to find out there's no available bed at Hotel Ganesh Himal.
They recommended I stay at Hotel Rosebud, around the corner, for the
night as they'll have a room for me starting tomorrow. Now I've
stayed in few questionable places so far but Rosebud may take the top
honor...but hey, they had Internet access and western-style toilet.
